Launched LIVE Painting Demos

Week 2 Post: “Painting without a Parachute”

This past Sunday, I lept out of an airplane without a parachute. That is, I launched my first LIVE abstract expressionist painting demonstration on YouTube. I was nervous as hell to take this leap as normally, as a Director, I'm behind the camera. Definitely not my comfort level to be "performing" in front of the camera. To be it bluntly, my parachute never opened and I made a messy splatter of this first LIVE demonstration. I couldn't figure out how to GO LIVE on YouTube LIVE streaming. It took me an hour and then the first 7 minutes of going LIVE I was fiddling with the camera shooting the floor! Disasster! And the camera angle and glasses and being befuddled by the hors9ing around for an hour trying to make it all work made me look like I was 85 years old! I'm only 72!

Hopefully, over the next year I'll develop a comfort with these Sunday LIVE demonstrations. Staring with my next LIVE demo this coming Sunday, September 2nd. I did learn how to GO LIVE and also where to place my camera, and which glasses to wear, etc. So I'm planning on a more successful filming this Sunday, and I'll use this angle from here on out.

Let’s dive deeper into my creative philosophy. When I approach a blank canvas, it’s like leaping out of a plane at 10,000 feet—no parachute, just the exhilarating rush of the unknown MindbenderGallery.

Every stroke is a bold act of creative trust. I surrender to the process, embracing whatever comes—whether it’s luminous bursts of color, rhythmic lines, or unexpected intersections. That blend of courage and imagination is the fuel of abstract expressionism. In a film, it's like the final act, when ALL IS LOST until the protagonist somehow miraculously finds the key to successfully completes their mission.

Next week, I’ll share the backstory of a particular piece—its name, its making, and the moment it finally felt complete. Stay inspired—see you soon!
