Third LIVE Demo Painting "Moon Rain"

On October 4th I began my third LIVE YouTube painting demonstration. I decided to go with a cityscape and had prepped the 36"x48" canvas the week prior so that I was ready to start painting right at 1 PM on the 4th. I masked off the "street" portion of the canvas so I could focus on the sky and downtown building. The buildings and sky came next, with black outlines and blue sky and blue window reflections. I used my sheet rocker's scraping tools to apply the paint.

Continuing on that first Sunday LIVE show, I layered gold into the sky, and bathed the skyscrapers windows in gold as well. It was an interesting effect, but unfinished.

I had intended to wait and continue work on the painting at the next LIVE show on October 12th, but it's really difficult to have a painting on the easel, unfinished, and know what I want to do next. So mid-week I went back into the studio began to finish the work on the buildings and sky (more black and blue), and added a moon to the sky. Then I pulled off the mask and began work on the street. Creating a rain-soaked watery street is fun and a little tricky. Apply the marks with both a scraping tool and a paint brush, and some application of the water spray bottle eventually creates that magical watery look. I then let the canvas breathe overnight and planned to finish it the next day.

So on Thursday, October 9th, I put the finishing touches on the buildings, the moon and the rain-drenched street. Below is the finished, framed piece, "Moon Rain". I called it Moon Rain because if you see the moon it must be a clear night, and the rain had to come from somewhere, so I figured it came from the moon. Stupid huh? Oh well, abstract expressionists don't explain their work, they just paint and leave the interpretation up to the observer of the art.
